How to sow and grow sweet peas: a step-by-step guide

This is a tried and tested method for growing sweetpeas used by Sarah Raven, who grows a range of sweetpeas every year at her garden at Perch Hill, West Sussex.  

Sweetpeas make great cut flowers for the house and also look stunning  when grown over twiggy wigwams and supports in the garden. Here's a step-by-step guide to how to grow them.

1. To soak or not to soak

Most trials have proved that soaking seed overnight is not necessary and you get better germination without. You do not need to nick the seed coat either.
