Credit Suisse is investigating claims that it hired private detectives to shadow a star banker after he defected to a rival.

The Swiss bank is examining allegations that its security division had Iqbal Khan followed after he left to join UBS.

Mr Khan, 43, was reportedly tailed by a car containing three men – one of whom was heavily tattooed – while taking his son to football training in Zurich, and having dinner with his wife at a restaurant in the same city.

When he took pictures of the trio, they are said to have tried to wrest away Mr Khan's mobile phone before fleeing.

The men were later found and detained by the authorities for questioning.
